Aquino told: Fulfill your promise to the urban poor

MANILA, Philippines—An urban group on Tuesday staged a rally in front of president-apparent Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's home in Quezon City asking him to fulfill his promises to the poor.

The group of about a hundred people specifically called for the junking of the Quezon City-Central Business District project.

The protesters are residents of Sitio (sub-village) San Roque in North Triangle, Quezon City who are facing demolition.

"QC-CBD, ibasura," they repeatedly chanted.

"Noynoy, manindigan para sa kapakanan ng mahihirap (Noynoy, stand up for the welfare of the poor)," read one of the placards.

There were police outside Aquino's house but they did not stop the protesters, who arrived at around 11:00 a.m.

The group leader, Alberto Evangelista, said his group was there to send a letter to Aquino asking him to junk the project.

Aquino's staff member received the letter.

Aquino's aides said he was just inside his house meeting some people.
